In order to remain relevant and current, tech companies like Google need to be constantly developing their services. Follow the changes that Google makes for any amount of time and you will notice that these alterations come on a near daily basis. One of the more recent changes introduced was a New Tab page in Google Chrome. Some users have found this new page useful but there are others who aren’t too keen.
The New Tab page on Google Chrome currently shows a big Google Search bar along with the most popular pages you visit. This change, aimed at the majority of Internet users who use Google Search, isn’t great for app users. However, you can still access your apps by pressing the Apps icon below the URL bar in your browser. You can also hit the nine squares at the top-left of the New Tabs page.
If you are not a fan of the New Tab page on Google, there is a way you can actually revert to the old layout. This can be done by:
- Opening a new tab in Chrome by pressing CTRL + N or the tab button beside an open tab.
- Entering chrome://flags into the address bar.
- Searching for Enable Instant Extended APIs.
- Pressing the arrow beside Default and selecting Disabled.
- Restarting your browser.
If you use apps but also like the new search bar, try reverting and entering your search in the URL bar. As you may know, when you enter a term in the URL bar without the ‘www. and .com’ and hit Enter, Chrome will take you to the Google search for what you have written. That way you can have both your apps and a Google Search bar (technically the URL bar) in the same place.
